Paul and I met in the summer of 2014. He was a native of New Hampshire stationed down south. I was born and raised in the suburbs of Northern Virginia. We had a lot of passions in common including hunting, country music, and a desire for a simper life. That summer was spent attending country concerts, rodeos, wineries, old plantation B&B’s, and multiple attempts at going skydiving (the weather was terrible every day we tried)! By the time autumn came that year, he was my best friend. The time apart (due to his obligations in the military and living in two separate states) was not easy, but it made every single moment together sweeter, and more memorable. Early in the winter of 2015 we started talking about our future, and that future included three things: us together, farming, and Maine. Paul went to college in Maine, but I had never been north of New York. But, at 24 years old, that’s what you do. You quit your job and move to Maine to be a farmer with the man you love.
In April of 2015, Paul finished his service with the Marine Corps, and we had loaded up the moving truck and followed the compass north to New England.

That spring, we looked at several farms but couldn’t find “the one”, so we chose to rent an old hunting cabin for the next year until our dream farm manifested.
At the end of 2015, Paul found a lovely farm not located far from our cozy cabin. It had been taken off the market a few months earlier, but that didn’t deter us from driving by it and dreaming. Beneath the chipping paint, rotting wood, and other deteriorating parts, we saw the most beautiful farm that just needed a bit of TLC and new life breathed into it.
Paul intended to write a letter to the owner to see if they would consider an offer from us. I excitedly had been telling my family all about our hopes and dreams of this farm. It just so turned out that when my sister in law asked me the address so she could look at it online, I pulled it up to send to her and it had just gone on the market again! Immediately, we called a realtor and set up a time to tour. Within 24 hours of that, we made an offer just in time since other offers were coming in directly after ours!

In March of 2016 we became the newest owners of this property. It has been known by many names over the last 200 years, but for our time here we have christened it Saint’s Hill Farm.
2016 was also very exciting because that was the year we got engaged! My sweet husband designed a beautiful ring and proposed on our farm in June of 2016.

As of July 2017, we were husband and wife. Our first dance was Dan and Shay’s “From the Ground Up”. I wonder if when they wrote that song, if they knew how perfect it would be for us.
“Someday we’ll wake up
With thousands of pictures
Sixty-five years in this little house
I won’t trade for nothing, the life that we built
I’ll kiss you goodnight and say I love you still
And we’ll build this love from the ground up
For worse or for better
And I will be all you need
Beside you I’ll stand through the good and the bad
We’ll give all that we have
And we’ll build this love from the ground up
From the ground up”

2019 is now coming to an end, and we are still here working hard on our dreams and loving one another along the way. We are excited to share our journey with you as we pursue farming and a family!
